COUNTDOWN TO THE 26TH ITS WORLD CONGRESS
This time next week, the 26th ITS World Congress (ITSWC19) in Singapore will be in full swing, and there will be no shortage of exhibits, sessions, demonstrations, tours and social events!
Smart Mobility, Empowering Cities kicks off October 21, with more than 10,000 expected participants and 300 exhibitors. The theme reflects Singapore’s commitment to “create the most livable smart city in support of a higher quality of life and an ever-connected community.” Whether or not you’re attending, here is a glance at some of what the ITS America team is most excited about…and if you will be there, please join us! - The opening ceremony, which features presentations of the Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement awards
- Plenary sessions on advancing connected and automated mobility development; promoting innovative mobility services; and intelligent mobility solutions for a sustainable smart city
- Executive sessions, several of which will feature ITS America board members
- Touring PSA Singapore Port, the world’s largest container transhipment hub – it handled more than 36 million TEUs of containers last year
- The ITS World Congress 2020 Launch Reception
Given our work over the past year standing up the Mobility on Demand (MOD) Alliance, we’re also really looking forward to the Global Forum on MaaS, which will explore how MaaS can enable greater and more efficient use of public and shared transport in cities with dense public transportation landscapes. It will look at three aspects: the viability of MaaS business models and their potential for integration within and across various sectors; the ways in which MaaS can operate and integrate and the challenges such cities will face; and the technological challenges and solutions in implementing MaaS in these cities. Speakers include MOD Alliance co-chairs Chris Murray (Kapsch TrafficCom) and Roger Millar (Washington State DOT) as well as ITS America President & CEO Shailen Bhatt.
And of course, we can’t wait to walk the amazing exhibit hall! For those ITS America members who will be in Singapore, please visit the North American Pavilion (booth #401). Attendees will learn more about next year’s ITS World Congress in Los Angeles, have a chance to see the latest from the U.S. Department of Transportation, and check out ITS America members EDI, Econolite, Iteris, PlanetM/MDOT, and Via.

Short Job Description: Act as a National Pursuit Champion for projects with value over $25 million. In this role, I oversee a team of professionals that collaborate in the pursuit of major projects spread across the USA. A recent example is the M-CORES project for SW Florida. It is a 140 mile corridor that will provide new infrastructure to a rural area.
Current or previous #ITS Project: M-CORES Florida. This project will utilize smart technology in the development of infrastructure.
Accomplishments: WTS International Board Member; IBTTA Foundation Board Member; Chair, Communications Committee, ITS World Congress 2014 and 2020.
What’s the future of #ITS look like to you? A world where ITS is the platform for a more seamless, integrated transportation experience.
Hobbies: reading, travel. To date have visited 42 countries, 5 continents and 48 states. Currently reading David McCullough’s new book, The Pioneers.
Family: One sister, one nephew and lots of “adopted” family
