Taking TMC Operations into the Digital Infrastructure Age through the use of Third-Party Data

This webinar is Part 6 of ITS America’s Digital Infrastructure (DI) webinar series. It aims to further educate, collaborate, and define DI use cases, focusing on Traffic Management Center (TMC) operations and the growing use of third-party data for situational awareness. The increasing complexity of modern transportation systems necessitates the adoption of innovative solutions to manage traffic effectively. Third-party data, such as real-time traffic information, weather updates, and incident reports, play a crucial role in providing a comprehensive situational awareness that TMCs require to respond promptly and accurately to various scenarios. By leveraging such data, TMCs can optimize traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve overall transportation safety.

This panel will present perspectives from three State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and one solution provider, all of whom have successfully enhanced TMC operations using third-party data, data exchanges, and governance structures. The panel discussion will delve into the challenges and successes encountered by the participating DOTs and solution providers. They will share insights on best practices for data integration, the importance of establishing clear governance structures, and the benefits of a collaborative approach in achieving a seamless and efficient transportation management system. Attendees will gain valuable knowledge on how to effectively utilize third-party data to enhance TMC operations and contribute to the development of smarter, more connected transportation infrastructure.
