CONTINENTAL, AMAZON TO KEYNOTE ANNUAL MEETING
ITS America is in countdown mode as we move closer to our 28th Annual Meeting and Expo June 4-7 here in Washington, DC!
We are excited about our keynote speakers and panelists. Continental North America President Jeff Klei and Amazon.com Vice President for Global Innovation Policy and Communications Paul Misener will offer keynote remarks on Wednesday, June 5th and Thursday, June 6th respectively.
Intelligent Mobility: Safer, Greener, Smarter will focus on the future of mobility technologies and highlight seamless mobility around the movement of people, data and freight in the 21st century.
President of Continental North America since 2008, Klei is responsible for customer, governmental and other external relationships in the region. He also retains his current responsibilities as Vice President of Sales, General Motors Worldwide.
A 19-year Amazon veteran, Misener founded Amazon’s public policy operations and currently advocates on behalf of the company’s culture, innovation and leadership. He is an engineer and attorney.

Each keynote will be immediately followed by panel discussions related to the day’s theme. “Safer, Greener, Smarter” is slated for Wednesday, June 5th and panelists include:Gabe Klein, co-founder, Cityfi; Sherif Marakby,President and CEO, Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC and Angel Mendez,Chief Operating Officer, HERE Technologies.
The discussion on Thursday, June 6th will focus on “Moving People, Data and Freight.” Panelists include Joe Bergera, President and CEO, Iteris and Therese McMillan, Executive Director, Metropolitan Transportation Commission; and Dr. Josh Switkes, Founder and CEO, Peloton.

Short Job description/Role Responsibility: I lead the Transportation Practice within Michael Baker International’s 3,500 employees and engage clients in the market in order to deliver effective, creative solutions to transportation challenges. As Transportation Practice Leader I oversee the national practice that delivers more than $150 million in annual transportation revenue. A key component is also leading the advancement of the ITS and CAV portion of our traffic portfolio in order to utilize the latest technology to improve safety and assist entities in being prepared as the transportation system becomes more automated and connected.
Accomplishments: I’m the current Chair of ITS America Board of Directors, past Director of Caltrans (2011-2018; appointed by Governor Jerry Brown.) I am the past Chair of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Executive Committee. I led the delivery and completion of the $6.4 billion new East Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, opened in 2013. I’m also the recipient of AASHTO’s 2018 Thomas H. MacDonald Memorial Award.
What’s the future of #ITS look like to you? Improved safety, greater mobility options, convenience, and access to all modes of an integrated transportation system.
Hobbies: Golf, tennis, fitness, obstacle course racing.
Family: Life partner and wife Linda and I have three children – Connor, Karissa, and Seth. Oldest in college, 2nd oldest is studying and working full time as a personal trainer, and junior is cruising through high school hoping to figure out college.
Most Unusual Job you have ever had before current position: I worked two summers on a party fishing boat of the New Jersey shore in between High School and college, and freshman and sophomore years of college.
First car you drove?: 1974 VW Bug
Hidden Talent: Can juggle and can ride a unicycle, but can’t juggle while riding a unicycle!
If you weren’t working in Transportation industry you would: Designing sports venues or golf courses.
