Women’s History Month Begins

Tomorrow marks the start of Women’s History Month, a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture, and society. Also in March- International Women’s Day (March 8), a global celebration of the economic, political, and social achievements of women that began more than 100 years ago in 1911.

This year’s theme for the month is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” which organizers say is “both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.”

At ITS America, we are excited to participate in these celebrations by sponsoring two virtual events and continuing our efforts to increase the number of women and attract more diverse voices into transportation through MobilityXX, which we launched last fall with our partners WTS International and The Ray. If you haven’t yet signed the pledge, this month is a perfect time to do it!

Webinar– The 2021 Women in the Workplace report

The seventh annual Women in the Workplace report, joint research by McKinsey and LeanIn.org, shows that a year and a half into the COVID-19 pandemic, women in corporate America were even more burned out than they were in 2020—and increasingly more so than men.

What does gender and racial diversity look like across industries in the U.S. and in transportation particularly? Despite important gains, women remain underrepresented in the workplace, even more so in leadership positions. Please join us for a discussion with Kweilin Ellingrud of McKinsey & Company as she addresses key findings from the report in our first event celebrating Women’s History Month.

Kweilin will provide an overview of the 2021 Women in the Workplace report and discuss research and findings as they relate to the transportation industry and the overall workforce. The webinar will be held Thursday, March 24th 2-3 pm EDT; registration and more information can be found here.

Virtual Book Club Webinar – Women Driven Mobility

ITS America is thrilled to host our first-ever virtual book club discussion with the authors of Women Driven Mobility: Rethinking the Way the World Moves. Katelyn Shelby Davis, who leads communications at Cavnue, and Kristin Shaw with WSP, compiled more than 40 case studies of women leading the way in mobility and automotive innovation.

To have a mobility system that works for all its users, we must include diverse voices at the decision-making table. Shaw and Davis bring this idea to life through interviews and case studies that highlight women leaders in the mobility industry and their innovative ideas on how women are reinventing the way the world moves. On March 31, we will conclude the month’s celebration of women’s empowerment with a virtual book club meeting featuring the authors and women highlighted in the book.

Participants will learn about untold leadership stories within the mobility space and celebrate the amazing work of Shaw and Davis. If you can’t read the book before the webinar, join us anyway – it is bound to be a fascinating discussion. The webinar will be held on March 31 at 2 pm EDT; registration and more information can be found here. More information on the authors can be found here.

We hope you can join us at one or both events as we honor Women’s History Month and celebrate trailblazing women everywhere.
