The online program equips transportation professionals for an evolving workplace with essential knowledge to deploy AI safely and efficiently.

Atlanta, GA- Today, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) unveiled “Artificial Intelligence in Transportation,” a new online course to promote responsible use of AI in transportation. Announced during the 31st ITS World Congress, the course provides transportation practitioners with foundational knowledge of AI technologies, alongside policy considerations — ensuring tools are applied to improve safety, mobility, and efficiency across transportation systems.

“The world around us is evolving rapidly, and it is critical that our transportation workforce has the knowledge they need to move just as quickly if we want to address our greatest challenges,” says CEO and President of ITS America Laura Chace. “This course covers the basics of AI and gives our experts the tools they need to modernize outdated systems – helping us save lives and time, and building the efficient transportation systems our communities deserve.”

Launched in partnership with GFT, a global architecture, engineering, and construction firm with more than 5,000 infrastructure experts, this self-paced course is designed for transportation professionals across sectors and experience levels. It introduces foundational AI concepts, history, and terminology, while also addressing key ethics, policy, and common misconceptions. Participants will explore real-world case studies from the ITS Technology Use Case Library of AI advancing safety, mobility, and efficiency in transportation today.
