ITS America Statement on 5GAA Petition for Waiver to the FCC

WASHINGTON – The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) today filed comments on the 5G Automobile Association’s (5GAA) request to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for waiver to allow deployment of cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology in the 5.9 GHz Band.

Below is a statement from ITS America President & CEO Shailen Bhatt.

“First and foremost, we strongly urge the FCC to preserve availability of the 5.9 GHz band for life-saving vehicle to everything (V2X) technologies. I testified earlier this week that these technologies could have eliminated or mitigated more than 1.2 million crashes last year. The deployment of cooperative ITS technologies that are proven, available and can save lives is a positive next step in our quest to finally end the scourge of fatalities on U.S roadways. The sooner we can deploy these technologies in cars, trucks, buses and motorcycles, the more lives we will save.

ITS America looks forward to working with all stakeholders, including 5GAA, the FCC and others to resolve any potential challenges that may arise in this and related proceedings.”
