FCC Releases Second 5.9GHZ Report and Order

Washington, D.C. November 22, 2024 – Yesterday, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted the Second Report and Order regarding the 5.9 GHz Band, a critical step in enabling widespread deployment of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies across the nation.

The Second Report and Order establishes the final rules for cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) operations in the 5.9 GHz band, allowing transportation agencies and the private sector to move beyond temporary waivers to fully deploy C-V2X devices to save lives and improve mobility on our roads. The conclusion of these rules represents a major advancement towards achieving the United States Department of Transportation’s National V2X Deployment Plan, which articulates specific objectives and milestones to achieve a full-scale, interoperable deployment of V2X connectivity across the United States.

ITS America and the organization’s members are leading advocates for spectrum policy that will fully enable V2X technologies to deliver safety outcomes for all road users.

“We applaud the FCC for their work towards the completion of this rulemaking. We stand ready to work with our partners to make the promise of V2X a reality; leveraging transportation connectivity to significantly improve safety outcomes for our communities,” said ITS America President & CEO Laura Chace.
