The Intelligent Transportation Society of America has released its updated Automated Vehicle Policy Framework, calling on strong federal leadership from the U.S. government to set policy that ensures the safe deployment of AVs on the road and looks to encourage further adoption of autonomous mobility options.

Some key calls to action for the U.S. Department of Transportation include:

Create a centralized data sharing mechanism for AV safety and operations that builds upon existing collection efforts

Develop required driving tests and safety case approaches for Automated Driving Systems (ADS)

Modernize Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)

Incorporate digital infrastructure, accessibility, cybersecurity, research, and workforce needs into all policy developments
