ITS America has released its 2026 Surface Transportation Reauthorization Policy Principles, putting innovation at the forefront and calling for greater investment in transportation technology that will improve safety, efficiency, and mobility for the U.S. transportation system.

Integrating Digital Infrastructure into Federal Transportation Programs
Providing Formula Funding for Transportation Technology
Streamlining and Improving Technology Procurement

Bold investments in technology throughout transportation programs will yield greater benefits for Americans across the country, delivering safer journeys, more efficient and reliable travel, and economic growth in their communities. Our policy proposals look to integrate, fund, and enable digital infrastructure projects at scale – beyond demonstrations and local pilots – to create a fully connected, interoperable system across the country. We have an opportunity to prioritize digital infrastructure, technology, and innovation more holistically and at a level that reflects our country’s needs, empowering a better transportation system for generations to come.
