How can automated vehicles navigate work zones safely as connected digital corridors expand nationwide? This webinar will explore findings from the PennDOT-led Automated Driving System (ADS) demonstration project, which tested AVs in simulation, on a closed track, and in live freeway, urban, and rural work zones. We’ll discuss how timely work-zone and lane-closure information, interoperable data and mapping, and real-world validation can support safer AV operations across corridors and jurisdictions. The conversation will also address challenges such as changing layouts, low lighting, rain, and other dynamic conditions, as well as priorities for further testing and standardization.
