Program, Session Highlights, and More: Experience the 2021 Annual Meeting
After a strange two years, we’re (finally) only a few weeks away from the highly anticipated 2021 ITS America Annual Meeting, hosted in the Queen City: Charlotte, North Carolina. From December 7th through 10th, attendees will Reimagine Transportation, experiencing groundbreaking technical sessions, roundtables, and panels; paper presentations; a thriving exhibit floor; live demonstrations of innovative solutions; and local technical tours.
Keynotes
Conference keynotes, always an event highlight, include Jennifer L. Homendy, 15th Chairperson of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), on Wednesday, December 8th. Homendy will speak on the importance of “Safer and More Equitable Mobility.”
On Thursday, December 9th, Michael Berube, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Sustainable Transportation in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) will detail his thoughts on “A Cleaner and More Sustainable Transportation System.”
Executive and Special Sessions
The core of the Annual Meeting has always been educational content. This year, 60+ sessions will cover topics from advanced air mobility (“Ready for Takeoff: Advanced Air Mobility in America’s Cities”), to smart intersections (“20/20 Vision”), to equity and accessibility (“Broadband Expansion to Meet Safety, Mobility, And Equity Goals” and “Advancing Seamless and Inclusive Mobility”). Other session headliners include Digital Twinning, Contactless Payments, and so much more.

State DOT and City Roundtables
The traditional State DOT Roundtable will feature DOT leaders from multiples states talking policy and investment priorities. New this year will also be a City DOT Roundtable, with mobility leaders from multiple U.S. cities focusing on climate change in transportation.
Technical Tours
Join us December 7th, when attendees can visit the I-77 Express Lanes Operations Center, hosted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) and I-77 Mobility Partners.
Demonstrations
At every Annual Meeting, we are excited to showcase our members’, exhibitors’ and sponsors’ latest technologies. This year one of our demonstrations will include the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) and Pronto, a leading safe-driving autonomy company, will host the first of a series of roadshows at ITS America’s Annual Meeting. The roadshow will highlight two demonstrations of automated driving systems developed under the Trucking Fleet Concept of Operations (CONOPS) project, a four-year, $10 million effort sponsored by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Federal Highway Administration.
MobilityXX Breakfast
The MobilityXX breakfast will highlight women’s leadership in transportation and mobility, and participants will discuss actionable methods to encourage diversity, inclusion, retention, and advancement – including the MobilityXX Pledge Program. Comprising only 15% of the transportation workforce and even less at the CEO and C-suite level, women’s voices in transportation have long been underrepresented. This event will include an engaging panel of thought leaders and executives from both the public and private sectors discussing the importance of ongoing mentorship for women in our industry.
Exhibit Hall
More than 100 exhibitors are committed to showing their intelligent transportation technologies on the show floor at the Charlotte Convention Center. Automotive and OEMs, traffic detection and sensor specialists, IoT innovators, telecommunications professionals, traffic management specialists, lidar manufacturers, systems integrators, architecture and engineering firms, research and academia, and exhibits featuring detection, signage, tolling and more will showcase to leaders, influencers, and experts across the entire mobility spectrum.
