ITS America filed comments on the FCC’s 5.9 GHz Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (FNPRM) on June 2, 2021. The FNPRM sought comment on numerous issues related to the transition of V2X communications from the lower 45 MHz to the upper 30 MHz and power limitations that should be placed on unlicensed devices operating in the lower 45 MHz. ITS America’s comments focused on: (1) the need to protect the upper 30 MHz from harmful interference from unlicensed devices operating in the lower 45 MHz, (2) the need to establish a reimbursement mechanism to cover the transition costs of incumbent licensees, and (3) the need to provide additional spectrum elsewhere for V2X communications.
